Terms of service

These terms are between you and Relote, which operates Context Engine (the "service"). You agree to them by creating an account, creating or joining an engine, or using an API key or token that reaches one. If you are doing that on behalf of a company, you are agreeing for it, and "you" means the company.

The privacy policy is part of these terms. It says what we collect and what we do with it.

What the service is

Context Engine is a hosted memory for a team and its agents. An engine is one shared body of notes, records, files and conversations, with its own database, search index and credentials, that the people you invite and the agents they connect can read from and write to.

You can use it through the console, through the MCP endpoint with an API key or an OAuth token, and through the connections you set up to other services. What each of those can reach is described in the manual, which is part of the product rather than part of these terms.

Your account, your engine, your people

An account belongs to one person and is identified by an email address. You are responsible for what is done with your account, and with any API key or token issued for an engine you own. Keep them private; if one leaks, rotate it in the console.

An engine has an owner. The owner decides who is a member, what role they hold, what is connected, and what plan the engine is on. Members act within the engine on the owner's authority, and the owner is responsible for their use of it under these terms.

What you may not do

You may not use the service:

• to store, process or send anything unlawful, or anything you have no right to hold;
• to reach, or attempt to reach, an engine you are not a member of, or to interfere with the isolation between engines;
• to probe, overload or disrupt the service, or to get around a limit it enforces;
• to send unsolicited messages through a connected service;
• to resell or provide the service to third parties as a service of your own, without a written agreement with us.

We may suspend an engine, a credential or an account that does this, or that we reasonably believe is being used to attack the service or other customers. Where we can, we tell the owner why and what would resolve it. Suspension stops writes and access; it does not delete anything, and an owner can still ask for an export unless the law prevents it.

Your content

Everything you put into an engine stays yours. You give us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store it, index it, send it to the models that answer your questions, back it up, and show it to the members and agents you have allowed. We do not use your content to train models, and we do not sell it.

You can take a complete copy of an engine at any time as a ZIP of Markdown and JSON, and you can delete an engine yourself. Both are described in the manual and in the privacy policy.

You are responsible for having the right to put content into an engine, including content about other people and content that arrives through a service you connect.

Connected services and agents

When you connect another service, or let an agent use an engine, that service or agent acts under its own terms and its own permissions. We are not a party to them. Some connections send your content to the other service, and the privacy policy says which; what that service then does with it is governed by its terms.

Answers from models

The service uses language models to answer questions, write summaries and act on your behalf. Their output can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. You decide what to rely on and what to act on; we do not warrant that an answer is accurate.

Plans, limits and payment

Every engine starts on the free plan. Paid plans are billed monthly per engine, in advance, at the price shown in the console when you choose them. The limits of each plan are enforced rather than advertised: when a ceiling is reached, the engine stops answering until the month resets or the plan changes.

We may change prices or plans with at least thirty days' notice by email to the owner. A change applies from your next billing month. Fees are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise.

When a subscription ends

An engine is never deleted for non-payment. If a paid subscription lapses, is cancelled, or a payment fails and is not resolved, the engine is frozen read-only: its members can still sign in, read, search and export everything in it, but nothing new is captured and no model turn runs. Paying again unfreezes it. It stays that way for as long as you leave it.

An engine is deleted only when its owner asks for it, or in the one case of an engine created by an agent through the API that no person ever claimed, which the manual describes and which is deleted on the schedule stated there.

Availability and changes

We work to keep the service available and to tell you about planned interruptions, but we do not promise uninterrupted availability, and the free plan carries no service commitment at all. We may change or withdraw features; where a change removes something you rely on, we tell owners in advance where we reasonably can.

Liability

The service is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we exclude every implied warranty, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, or loss of data that you could have exported. Our total liability to you under these terms in any twelve-month period is limited to the fees you paid us in that period. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Ending these terms

You can stop using the service at any time. Deleting your engines and asking us to close your account ends these terms for you, except for the parts that by their nature continue, such as the limits on liability.

We can end them with you by giving thirty days' notice by email, or immediately if you break them in a way that is not fixed after we ask. Either way, you can export your engines first, and the read-only rule above applies until they are deleted at your request.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For a material change we email every owner at least thirty days before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that date is agreeing to the change. The date at the top of this page is when it was last changed.
